How Come I Can't Take My Clarinet Home?
Duke Ellington: I want practice time to be something like, you don't waste this. You can get so much done if you have an expectation that's clear in your mind and you're able to discriminate between what you're intending to do and what actually comes about. "I just love that story," Duke says of a clarinet player who was allowed to take her instrument home after practicing for five minutes at the end of class. 'When you do this consistently in class, you take your fingers from home,' he adds.
