CHAPTER

I Love Small Winds Along the Way

This past year was really my first year getting big into endurance training. So i based started to implement just some like, weekly goals for myself. When i did my first 50 mile a week, that was probably a bigger challenge and a bigger sense of accomplishment than if i just go out and run a hundred miles a week now. I think like the key to longevity is actually taking those steps in order, verses hyper fixating on say, well, what's so and so doing?

Yet, i definitely love having like, small winds along the way. This past year was really my first year getting big into endurance training, and i was constantly having to adjust. I wa onted it was 70 point three, and that was constantly changing with all the cancellations and the defers. So i based started to implement just some like, weekly goals for myself. I one in specific that i member was my first 50 mile week. I men, i know that's nothing to you, but for somebody who wasn't really a big runner, like taking down my first 50 mile a week and just having to, i actually plannd that out, when was i going todo it around my work schedule. And i just remember taking down that final run, and that just being such a motivating factor to me to just be like, wow, i have never run this far in my life over this, you know, short period of time. And this wind, you know, is a small wind, towards my greater goal. But like this wind is pushing me forward significantly faster than i would have been if i'm just like, you know, it's the middle of june, and i've got a september race date, and to day's another day of training. So i totally kind of a line with what you say about those smaller winds. A for me, it's all about just making it fun. And if i and if i can get enough some positive energy going in my direction, i think that's a great way to keep fanny moving forward. Ye,

that's a great attitude. I know, one story i usely share folks when there little talk about like mileage and things like that, is my my first year of college, when i met with my cross country coach. He kind of just broke down the progression. And it was something the tune of are kind of like first year runners are usuly targeting maybe 50 miles a week a sophomores are getting up to 60. Juniors, maybe aybe 70, 80. And then a few of the seniors maybe even hit a hundred mile week during your 90 to a hndred mile weeks during summer training. Ad. I just remember thinking, there's no way i'm ever going to run a 90 mile week. It's depending on where you are in the trajectory. It's like u now, 50 mile weeks are hard when you haven't done a 50 mile week. And i could honestly tell you a when i did my first 50 mile a week, that was probably a bigger challenge and a bigger sense of accomplishment to me at the time than if i just go out and run a hundred mile a week now. So i think like the key to longevity, an the spor is actually taking those steps in order, verses hyper fixating on say, well, what's so and so doing? I need to get there as quickly as i can, where then you kind of tryed t like, i guess, mackerel stress your body's the way i cind of label it, versus micro stress your body. And it sounds like you're, you're kind of doing it the right way, and o getting too carried away early on, which is great to hear.
