The Three Cueing System for Reading
Goodman proposed that as people become better readers, they rely less and less on graphic cues. Reading is coming up with words that make sense using what came to be known among educators as the three cueing system. For Goodman, accurate word recognition was not necessarily the goal of reading. If the sentences are making sense, the reader must be getting the words right.
