Love and the Birth of Children
Diotoma: We would even cut off our own limbs if they became bad, right? Were diseased. The motivating force in people coming together must be understood as purely this instinct to drive towards the good. And so diotoma goes on to describe sexual relations and the birth of children as a divine thing. A key aspect of this insight is that love is re defined from something which is about restoring what was losttwhich may be like an unintended consequence.
