Costa Rica's History

Costa Rica was colonized by the Spanish, but because it didn't have a viable cash crop for plantation system. Most of the Spaniards couldn't afford to sustain a slave as they struggled to maintain their own livelihoods. So Costa Rica's lack of resources that the Spaniards valued spared it from becoming a center of colonization and slavery.
