Is There Such a Thing as an Altruistic Act?

Phoebe and joe were engaged in as a century's old philosophical debate. Is there such a thing as a truly unselfish act, or an altruistic act? In whish youl probably define that real quick. Truism is performing some self sacrificing act for the benefit of another person. But i don't think we'd be even having this discussion if that was it.
