I always start with diaphragmatic breathing because I find that that is the most fundamental we've got guided imagery really well researched and guided imagery was used in pain management way before there was gold standard randomized controlled trials now progressive muscle relaxation is perhaps not as well researched but it's still very viable. There are other evidence-based relaxation techniques such as yoga, Tai Chi, there's mindfulness meditation  that doctors can easily share with patients in a clinic setting maybe if a doctor is also a yoga teacher they may be able to show one or two stretches or asanas that are particularly good for that patient.
