In a meeting with senior engineers, the boss told them he would not promote someone who wasn't sharing knowledge. He said that his job was to make sure they were well-qualified but didn't do enough teaching and mentoring for their company's success. Some of the engineers came up to him afterwards saying how much they appreciated it. "I disagreed with them and got them to commit by being affront about that," says Mr Houghton.
