It's possible that once you have a good understanding of consciousness, it would be mapped to some things that are more measurable. I take the Turing test really seriously. And there's some deep sense in which that is intelligence. If it looks like it's intelligence, it is intelligent. At least for me, we have to consider that possibility and a system that appears to be conscious is an engineering challenge.
