A city is a complex adaptive system. We get non-linear relationships occurring where let's take a city, for example. A dependency starts existing between all of those houses and the grocery store. So there is this magnificent reshaping of that system continuously over time. But at the same time, it's becoming more fragile because of its dependencies building up in that system. Turn that electricity off and that city stops operating as a city. The transport system, everything breaks down. In any complex adaptive system, there is an entropic direction.
