Overconsumption is one of the underlying sources of self-terminating systems. AGI, biotech, bioengineering, technology, nano are some of my favorite nanobots. I would be full steam ahead in building them without sufficiently thinking about the negative consequence. There's definitely a game theoretic advantage to those who focus on the opportunities and don't focus on the risks.
