How to Run a Marathon in Two and a Half Hours

If you have a four or five hour marathon goal, get outside and do two hours of walking. The elites don't do that because they can run a marathon in a long run in two and a half hours. You won't lower your risk of injury but it's safer from a neuromuscular perspective. And psychologically, you're still ready on race day to handle four or five hours out on the course.
