Some people derive the most motivation from fat loss because they don't like, and they've tried and failed multiple times before. And so successfully losing fat is extremely motivating to them. Whereas trying to get them to start around maintenance, I think you make a good argument for it. Something that is probably underutilized is taking a like waist circumference measurements.
