The Parasympathetic Nervous System and Breathing Out

When we feel anxious, we have this very kind of natural urge to take in breath. The out breath stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system or the vagus nerve. And so if you focus on breathing out rather than breathing in, we can then really actively bring ourselves much more grounded in the present moment and trying to deliberately shift our experience from that stress fight, flight response into the relaxation response.
