The Complexity of Bacteria

In order to conceptualize, you have to be flexible and imagine something that doesn't already exist. I'm not sure if the bacteria in general have this much choice. Many families of bacteria are able to work over a range of environments. But I suspect that you can have very different degrees of complexity in the bacterium. And probably bacteria which are really, really stupid and very non-adaptive.
