I say that if we are sad when we're in love, it's seen as a failure because love's supposed to be about being happy ever after. If we want to ask someone how their relationship is going, we ask, are you happy with them? Happiness has just come to stand in for your love life going well. It's either a Greek tragedy or just unspeakable bliss.
