The Play of Animals

Carl Groot was a philosopher and naturalist. He pointed out that animals of any species play when they're done at the very kinds of skills that they most need to practice in order to survive. So young lions, everybody's seen kittens play a predation. Young zebra, cults of young gazelle playing it fleeing and dodging? That's the big stumbling block to their survival.
