There are cross adaptations, or transference, between running and cycling. You can do certain types of conditioning more often and for higher volumes than other training modes because they place a lower load on the body. The specificity of the exercise mode is high lighted when the peripheral, the muscular adaptations occur without significant a central card which are carde vascular adaptations. So if you have an exercise that doesn't challenge that, it is likely to transfer over less into another exercise.
