Ryan Patterson took a three hour boat tour of the harbor at long beach. He then counselled an employee who was struggling to find common interest in his work. By riding along with him, he found out what obstacles were getting in the way and how they could be removed. It's similar to when you go into organizations where you're sceptical about their ability to make changes quickly.
