What's the Difference Between High and Medium UX Maturity?

How do you identify a company's maturity level? I look for how research is actually involved. Is it mostly use on the evaluative and usability side or more strategic? That's one thing, one way to gauge the proportion of work between the buckets. Another way is to ask researchers, how do you actually influence your stakeholders? And usually from the responses that they give, it's you can get signals for which UX maturity level the company might be at.
