The deltoid ligament is a fanning system on the inside. It tends to be like different sort of bundles that seem to be a bit thicker. The syndasmosis, which I'm sure some people have heard about, or the classic high ankle sprain. So you can test for these things by moving your ankle and seeing if there's a difference in range of motion.
