When you run, let's use your calf or your soleus as an example. It works pretty bloody hard, even with slow running. As you increase your speed, it exponentially increases the demand. And how many runners neglect and I was guilty as charged for a good eight years of my first eight years as a runner, never strengthened my calf muscles. That one is pretty stark in terms of its, I guess, exponential demand to meet once you increasing your speed.
