The Importance of Glycogen in the Marathon

Glycogen is key because since our brain runs on glycogen, your brain is tasked with essentially keeping us alive. And so if you can do things like the switching of the carbohydrate or electrolyte fluid, sugar fluid in your mouth and let it dissolve there, that entryway from the gums into the bloodstream is very, very quick. So I always tell people, yeah, gum, that's why you'll see it in the marathon too. They'll have all these gummies and, you know, goos and gels, especially in the last 10k available at eight stations. That's what your brain need wants most that reassurance that glycogen is on the way
