The Best Way to Start a Race Is to Eat the Start Line
You are less likely than the whole rest of the day to find an opportunity to fuel during that first hour. A hydration pack from the start line to pipeline can be a real friend. The accordion effect 200 yards into the race this is no longer a big deal unless you're at the back of the white corral. If you see something like that make sure you call it out as you break so you don't wind up having the person behind you also get surprised and rear-end you.
