I got very involved in kidney transplantation in the early days, when they were opening up new units. And to be honest, practically everybody died. So it wasn't quite the moral dilemma, it might sound. People were trying to find things to track in the body to find out what was going on. We found that rejection was switching of direction of a pattern of creatinine. That's the beauty of mathematics.
