Meditation - The Mental State of Loving Kindness
If your mind is got anger, hatred, ill will, it's going to come out. You can't im gine even one hair on an aunt's head getting harmed. And you just have this genuine interest in seeing all beings be well,. But at the same time, you're not holding on to it so tightly that you're afraid of walking down the street and stepping on an aunt. So you find that middle way where you're cultivating this mental state in meditation on a consistent, ongoing basis. Then in your daily life, you're making choices, through your intentions, speech and actions, to practice loving kindness - even when it's difficult.
