The Allegory of the Cave

Plato's allegory of the cave is an idea that sticks with people. In it, there are people who have been fettered into position their entire lives and all they can do is scare straight ahead at a wall. Plato tells us that we are like those people. He says what we see in our sensible world around us is merely a pale imitation of the true reality.
