The Price of Government Bonds Has Been Going Up for 40 Years Now
The price of the key bit of collateral government bonds has already been going up for 40 years. Now it's been coming down since 2020. Have you seen any major implications of that? Well not so far I suppose you could call this a small move but it's maybe one of the bigger moves we've seen in the price of that key collateral in that 40 year period. So actually what we're seeing in global financial markets at the moment is a general shortage of good quality collateral. If that term premier were eliminated overnight global bond yields could be 100 to 200 basis points higher than they are now. Big problem.
