The average doctor's visit for folks with serious mental illness is somewhere on the order of 40 minutes. These folks tend to not access primary care effectively, so what happens for a lot of these patients is that they have no choice but to go to the emergency room. We've created a system where the hospital is the default place for people who really need something completely different. And most importantly, it's abrasive and traumatizing to people who deserve better.
