How to Train for a 5k PB
I think one of the things that made the biggest difference to my running and particularly over 5k was combining two things that we talk about on the running tunnel, tempo or threshold running and hills. I do five to 10 times 30 to 45 seconds, hill sprints with a walk back down recovery. Then a short, another short recovery, maybe three minutes after the final hill effort. Then I do the threshold again. And the reason that I sometimes did five hills, not 10 is because that was a bit out of the way when I do a second set of hills. So yeah, five or 10.
