Forgetting is very important, as you've said sobut it's almost like we want our students to forget things. Helping them then remember these things that they've forgotten helps to incode that information more thoroughly in their long term memory. Its justa remembering in disguise, isn't it? Tom cican: I'd say what helen was saying about for y knowledge, there's an absolute iceberg of background and sometimes tacit knowledge,. And the stuff that's we're paying attention to in the class rooms is this top little bit of the iceberg. It's really, really tricky to know what's underneath.
