This study was limited to patients who were saturating 95 % and above on room air, the medium of all their oxygen saturation values on th first hospital day. These are not patients with a dense lobar infiltrate and hypoemia on rumer. Many of whom are unlikely to really have bacterial pneumonia. And this is kind of corroborated by the fact that only four percent of patients in this study had any bacteria identified on esputum culture at all.
