The Importance of Micronutrients in the Gut

Fibre is not a single nutrient, which is why fibre supplements are no magic bullet either. It's not just about quantity, but also diversity of complex carb hydrates in plants. Gut microbes use different types of complex carbohydrates and even metabolic by products to produce short chain fatty acids that impact our health in a variety of ways. This is why eating only one type of fibre, as in from supplementation, is ultimately a fail strategy. The best way to increase your microbia bio diversity is to actually eat a variety of polysacarites from a diverse diet of plants and vegetables as well as fruits.
