Joint Action

CHAPTER

Should I Brace My Knees for Athritus?

We have tried to evaluate it in a trial looking at footweare for people with lateral compartment disease. But unfortunately, as i said, we had to stop the trial early and we can't really glean anything from that data. And so it is really difficult at the moment to provide an evidence based recommendation. For extrapolating from the medial wedged data, you would probably still go with some footwear that is supporting the tha medial arch or uostiffer on the medial side of the shoe. Or indeedpotentially, i'd be a no. Often lateral compartment ostro athoritis is associated with often more malalignment of the knee joint than what we might see immediately.
