The practice of open awareness is a fantastic bridge from the formed ferential practices. It's also referred to more technically, in the buddhist tradition as non referential shamata. In things like deep dreamless sleep, you'll got practices that can be aware of when you actually don't have a body. So it gets pretty esoteric but i love them because they're not quite the full blown nature of mind utter non dual meditations. They are what those practices dege rate into, and therefore they can act as a bridge into those foremost practices.
