Our individual thresholds for loneliness are also very much subjective and based on our own personal needs for connection. It's this weird inexplicable sensation of having people around you and yet not feeling as connected as you hoped. When you feel socially isolated, studies have shown that loneliness can be as painful and as impactful as if you were in physical pain or experiencing some form of physical trauma.
