There are a lot of things going on that have led celebrity stand-ums to become a little too culty for comfort if i may say. In the united states at this moment which i think of as like a peak cult era kind of like the 60s and 70s we are increasingly mistrusting institutions, especially those who provide us with moral leadership or community. To fill these voids we often find ourselves turning to influencers or brands or celebrities and that can get risky just because all of these people in these companies have like a fiscal bottom line likes they're in service of their own personal brand. There's no hard and fast list of criteria distinguishing a cult from a better accepted religion
