Compassionate communication is a way to bypass the downward spiral of conflict. We expect those we love to meet our needs, and when our needs aren't met, we feel angry. Anger can signal that we don't like the strategy someone is using to meet their needs. As Christians, we need to remember God gave us anger to fight for what is good.
