The Effects of High-Flow on Respiratory Support in ICUs
The only other large trial that happened in Africa that used CPAP versus standard low flow showed that CPAP was harmful, which is a tragedy. We chose to use high flow for that very specific reason. It was designed for home therapy. So if you can teach patients how to use it, all that be adults, you could also train non-specialists. And I think we really felt we were up against the moving times of equipoise disappearing in this group in the years before.
