Historian Gerald Harris points out that all of these things were symptoms of the same problem. The inability of the nobles to agree on a substitute for King Henry VI's rule. By 1459, 37 years had passed since a king had actually wielded royal authority in his own right. Margaret branded the Yorkist lords as traitors and attainted them.
