In order to build new muscle you have to turn up mTOR. And so there's this apparent paradox which is that the direction that increases lifespan and slows aging of turning down mTOR is opposite the direction of building muscle. So I think this idea that inhibiting mTOR in the context of increasing lifespan and slowing aging is irreconcilable with activating mTOR to build muscle really just reflects our current lack of understanding of the complexity of the system of the biology.
