Love is not something you have. It's something you do, or it's not something that happens to you. You don't just accidentally find yourself in a loving relationship one day. So much of the romantic myths about love are very self indulgent. After hundreds of years capitalist influence, we've come to understand what a good life is as being about how good we are as consumers. And so good partnership means consuming together. What are you buying together? Buy ing a house, buying some ino groceries every week. And, as you say, ultimately, even consuming one another,. which is sort of the worst and most depressing downside of it.
