The Importance of Rest Weeks in Training

The first red flag that I see is expecting a big watt increase in your FTP after your specialty phase. This is the time to settle into the fitness that you've created and really do the final touches of preparing for an event, not do all this big digging and building which will ultimately fatigue you further. And it doesn't mean that you've reached your potential because you didn't see an increase afteryour specialty phase. What else is there? Rest weeks. The reason that they are faster than other people is because they understand the relationship that I need to dose my body with stress and then I need to allow it time to absorb. That's what makes the best amateur athletes as well.
