The Importance of Thinking Deeply

The 18th century Zen Master Hakwyn was highly critical of teachers who believe that enlightenment was simply a matter of thinking nothing. He wanted his students to think really, really hard. The word for this was satori, an illuminating insight when the inscrutable is revealed. Couldn't we all use a bit more of that?
