The Role of Stimulants in ADHD

There is methylphenidate, which everybody knows as Ritalin. And there's amphetamines. So those are our stimulants. We had a third, but it caused some rare liver problems. Now we have the third category, which came around about right in 2000 or 2009. They're called alpha 2 agonists and they've been used for decades to lower blood pressure.
