"I can see the case pretty clearly that this treaty is not really doing much or at least not likely to do much in the short term," says Peter Bergen. "It reflects a view that resonates with many states that nuclear weapons are inherently inhumane and have humanitarian consequences." The supporters, he adds, say it sets a clear goal, the elimination of nuclear weapons. 'The fact that it creates complications for some states that want to sit on the fence...that's not a problem'
