Philip was charged with first degree murder in the death of his wife, Viola. He pleaded no contest to premeditated first degree murder and is currently serving a 12-year prison sentence in New Mexico. His best friend at the time gave a victim impact statement during the investigation into Rachel's death. Philip objects on the basis that the Kansas Constitution victims right amendment is some sort of prohibits such statements,. but they argued that the case should go through anyway.
