The Match System
When you're in med school, by that point, you have to figure out what you want to do. So if you wanted to do orthopedic surgery, you would send out your application to all the orthopedic programs in the country. And then you would submit to a match system, a rank order of the places you'd want to go. In my case, I think I ranked five programs. And I ranked Johns Hopkins first for surgery, not because I wanted to live in Baltimore,. though, in many ways, I think it was a blessing to do so.
