There's a plausible theory here, which is that if the goal of evolution is to pass our genes on, then being in groups is safer. So what we think happened was that the people who were more inclined to form little tribes are more likely to pass their genes on. All relationships can provide us with this sense of well-being, a sense of belonging,. A sense of being seen. The person who gets you your coffee in the morning in the coffee shop may do that for you. It can happen all kinds of different places.
