"I didn't grow up with boundaries being modeled for me. I was a really good kid until 16 when I was manipulated by an older family member and sexually abused," she says. In the aftermath, her parents decided not to tell anyone that that had happened as you say for fear that it would shatter the family piece. "In my family, the sort of unspoken rule and often spoken was, if we don't look at it, it didn't happen."
